European Sports Car Maintenance

European sports cars are an investment that we take seriously here at Poudre Sports Car. Making appointments for regular maintenance and upkeep on your vehicles is paramount to keeping them in working order, which is why we make it our priority to help you understand everything you need to know about upkeep on your European car.

European cars are high quality vehicles that need routine repair to maintain their quality and performance. Oil changes (and replacing oil filters) are commonly overlooked steps in the process of maintaining your car, as well as maintaining your cooling system, transmission cleaning and maintenance, tire rotation, and more. Each of these are essential to preventative maintenance and keeping your car in tip-top shape.

Essential Maintenance Tips for European Sports Cars

Whether you drive a sports car or a mini van, regular oil changes are necessary to keep your vehicle running. When it comes to European cars, however, regular oil changes become more important to keeping your engine running. A new filter should be installed every five to ten thousand miles, and you should check your oil regularly with a dipstick to make sure that you aren’t due for an oil change sooner than expected. Knowing what kind of oil your car needs is just as important as having it changed, as not just any oil will do the job right. Bring it in to an expert who specializes in European cars, so you can feel safe knowing that the best service and the right products are being used.

Regular tire maintenance is also a key step to ensuring not just the longevity of your vehicle, but also to your safety. The friction caused by hard stops at high speeds increases the wear and tear on vehicles, so having your tires rotated, replaced, and checked often are all important. You should also have your brake pads, rotors, and brake fluid regularly inspected to ensure it’s all in working order. Knowing that your car is up-to-date on fluids and maintenance is essential for peace of mind.

Understanding Your Sports Car’s Maintenance Schedule

Reading your vehicles maintenance manual can help you keep on top of deadlines and milestones that your vehicle meets for maintenance. While regular maintenance is important, knowing what milestones your car hits between regular inspections is equally as important. Check out our tuning services and talk to a technician today to schedule your regular maintenance and tune-up appointment.

Seasonal maintenance is also an important part of keeping your vehicle running smoothly and increasing its lifespan. Winterizing your vehicle (topping off fluids, covering and storing it properly if you don’t plan to drive it during the winter) will ensure that it is ready to go as soon as the weather warms up. Conversely, preparing your car for the summer with an inspection of things like your battery, brakes, and tires will keep it out of the repair shop and on the road for long summer drives.

Long-Term Care and Preservation of Your Sports Car

Long-term care and preservation of your car starts with knowing how to store it when you aren’t using it. The ideal situation would be to have a climate-controlled garage or storage unit where you can put your vehicle when you aren’t using it. If you don’t have access to a garage or storage with climate control, having it placed in a covered building is the next-best option. Protection from the elements is essential, and will keep you driving your car for many years (and miles!) to come. Investing in a tarp or fabric cover will help keep dust, debris, and scratches off the vehicle when it is placed in storage, and can help deter pests.

To maintain your vehicle’s beautiful color and paintwork, wax it regularly or have a vinyl or ceramic coating put on your car. All of these can be done yourself, or you can have a professional complete the work for you. There are pros and cons to each option, so make sure to do research and talk to a professional about the right choice for you.

Finally, documenting any repair or upgrades made to your European vehicle is an often-overlooked step of the long-term care and preservation of your car. Knowing what work has been completed, when, and by whom are all key to diagnosing any potential issues, or knowing how to value the car if you decide to sell it. Taking it to a certified dealership will help ensure that meticulous records are kept, and work is done by highly-trained professionals who specialize in your specific car.

Performance Upgrades and Modifications

If you’re a European auto owner, it’s likely you know about the multitude of upgrade options you can make to the kit. Some of the most popular upgrades include engine or performance tune-ups, upgraded brake systems, lowering kits, and airflow improvements. Upgrades can affect your maintenance routine by pushing out the date of your next maintenance (for example new brakes may change the date at which you need your brake system looked at), but they can also have more strict rules on when you should have your car looked at and maintained.

Before you upgrade your vehicle, make sure you understand your local and State laws regarding vehicle modifications. Some states regulate the kinds of non-standard lights and exhaust systems you can have on your car. They also may regulate the ground clearance on lowered (or raised) vehicles, so it’s important to do your research or speak with a professional about your modifications.

Seven years ago I purchased a 996 from Poudre, and in 2022 I purchased an (almost) new 982 GTS. I have my 982 serviced here now and I drive more than an hour because I *trust* this shop. Good people who *know* Porsche and do excellent work. Trust is very important to me, and this is a shop I really trust. Thanks Poudre for being where I trust to take my Porsche!

Excellent local FoCo service place that shows why they are so well regarded for so many years now. Clear explanation of service needs and backed out what was not needed when new info popped in. Car drives great! Will be back with eyes closed but not too soon!

I brought my car in for some performance upgrades. The team looked over my car and gave me all options for repairs in order of necessity that I had not been aware of. The team also provided cost savings while certain parts were off to save money on labor. Not often do the words honest and mechanics fit in the same sentence, but I would say they are re writing opinions of mechanics in the NOCO area. I Highly recommend these guys to take care of your toys.
